At GreatNor IP Law, domain name registration is another one of our areas of expertise, starting with an assessment to determine the most appropriate name, and taking into account the strategic goals of the company.
The domain name should stand for what the enterprise represents, be easy to remember and spell, and not infringe upon any industrial and intellectual property rights. Choosing a name that accurately identifies the company is paramount, as domain names should only be changed under exceptional circumstances.
There are 3 different types of domains:
-
- Top-level generic domains, such as .com, .org, .net
- Top-level generic domains, which are specialized and limited (required to meet certain conditions): .aero, for example, would be granted to an airline travel agency.
- Top-level domains corresponding to country or geographical region codes: .es for Spain, .eu for the European Union, etc.
Domain registration requires the personal data of the entity or person in charge of the said domain. Our experts handle the entire process through an ICANN-accredited provider.
More information on domains can be found on the ICANN website (https://www.icann.org). ICANN is a nonprofit organization responsible for the global coordination of domain systems, ensuring both stability and safety.
